Temporary exhibition
150 years of the LEB
Last year, to mark its 150th anniversary, the Lausanne – Echallens – Bercher railway company put together a historical exhibition, which was presented in the square in front of Echallens station on Saturday 30 September and then, at the beginning of November, on the stand of the guest of honour at the 44th Comptoir régional d’Echallens. However, the extensive research and presentation of the documents collected merited the exhibition being open to the public for a few extra weeks.
As the Swiss Wheat and Bread Museum was also looking for a temporary exhibition, an agreement was quickly reached. The LEB exhibition took up residence in the venerable farmhouse at the end of the Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville in Echallens on 13 February. It will remain on display until 30 June.
The presence of this exhibition in a place dedicated to the bread industry may seem incongruous. But when you think about it, the history of the LEB is closely linked to that of Gros-de-Vaud, and its line crosses the fields where the cereals that make crisp bread grow. Old trains and bread also have in common that they need a good wood fire: one to move forward, the other to carry out its final transformation.
The LEB exhibition can be visited during the museum’s normal opening hours, i.e. Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Admission tickets are on sale at the Echallens region tourist office, located in a building next to the museum, at Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville.
