Permanent exhibition
The permanent exhibition welcomes over four floors a story from wheat to bread, built from the collection of objects harvested over the years.
This story deals not only with the history of wheat and bread in chronological terms, but mainly about the path of wheat to bread in terms of raw materials processing stages.
The three fundamental professions in the area of the wheat and the bread- the farmer, the miller and the backer – are the main theme of this exhibition.

Waldenses costumes
For a long time, the members of the cantonal Association of the Waldenses costumes wished to have their house. Having patiently hoarded money during long years, they had to face the facts: of their house, they had only the roof! So, during the creation of La Maison du blé et du pain – having intended in particular to settle down in the former prisons of Moudon, the villa Eiffel to Vevey or the attic of the Castle of Echallens – they took the opportunity to present their traditional costumes on the first floor of the museum challensois.
It was the start of a great adventure, with models created by Gerry Embleton, until the inauguration of the museum, who sealed definitively the close collaboration between La Maison du blé et du pain and the Waldenses costumes.
Today, you find in Echallens all the Waldenses costumes for women and men of the whole canton. You can see how we wear them and how they have to be worn to keep their own value reference.
